Week 4: Web 2.0 defined

I believe MySpace and YouTube are powerful tools for personal expression in today's modern age. I liked YouTube the best because it allows individuals to post their videos/visual art for all the world to see. People are able to bypass the hollywood studio system and are free to create short films about anything they wish(within reason). I was surprised to find an OCLS presence on MySpace and YouTube, but believe that it ultimately helps online visitors understand what OCLS is all about. The Web 2.0 video was interesting. It certainly made you think about the future possiblities of the internet. Also how the internet affects the world around us.

Monocle magazine

I found out Thursday that most of the Orlando area Borders stores now carry MONOCLE magazine. This is the new periodical from Wallpaper* magazine founder Tyler Brûlé. Wallpaper* magazine created a new benchmark for periodicals when it was first released in 1996. Wallpaper* magazine is still being published today, although Tyler left as editor-in-chief in 2002. I purchased issue 2 on Friday, and was quite impressed. Kind of like The Economist, but more for urban modernists. The magazine's home page is: MONOCLE

Week 3: Regarding the introduction and application of RSS Feeds

I enjoyed the Week 3 lesson very much. RSS feeds are a great way to bring information to those who are seeking it. I selected five sites for my RSS reader: Bloglines/News, The Economist/World, Library Leader, Salon, and Wired Top Stories. I used Grokker to do a search for information on Fender Telecaster Electric Guitars and got some interesting information. I preferred the Map view over the Outline view because to me, it was much easier to interpret. I believe I am a kinesthetic learner. I also think Learn 2.0 is working with my learning preference. I learned much during this week's lesson. I'm looking forward to next week's lesson as well.
