Week 9: Digital Music

Digital Rights Management is an important concern regarding Digital Music. I prefer listening to vinyl LPs , but those are getting harder to come by. If I purchase a CD by an artist, I feel I am legally entitled to make at least 1 copy to play at work or on the road, etc. There needs to be a common meeting place in regards to the rights of recording artists and the rights of consumers who hand over their hard-earned money to buy major label CDs, etc. I can openly admit that the Macintosh computer rules, but I'm not really a big fan of Apple's Ipod or Itunes. Is hardware/software exclusivity regarding Digital Music downloads ever a good thing? Metallica and Napster have both become increasingly annoying for reasons too lengthy to go into in this blog posting. If you are a true fan of an artist, you need to get down to your local independent record store and buy the official release, or download it through legal means. Artists deserve to make a living just like everyone else.
